TUTORIAL: Creating curve pattern using Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 and Wildfire 4.0

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 introduced a new type of pattern by using curve. It sounds great and in fact it is a good tool. Most of the users thought that it is an enhancement from the previous fill pattern function (pattern > fill > curve).

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 creates a new entry for the newly introduced pattern. This has made the pattern dashboard contains of 2 curve patterns - pattern > fill > curve and pattern > curve. Most of the user confused when they want to try the new tool. They always go into the fill curve tool and found no differences compare to the previous version. (Note: The curve option is always hiding at the last options of the pattern type drop down menu.)

A short tutorial is created to create curve pattern using the new pattern > curve tool.

1. Open the curvepattern_start.prt.

2. Select the cut feature, click Edit > Pattern , and choose the curve type from the drop down menu in the dashboard.

3. The system will prompts you to select / sketch a curve (read message area). Select the sketched curve from the graphic display or model tree.

4. You can control the pattern by using distant   or number of entities . To get a constant distance between the entities, choose number of entities   and key in a value. You should get a pattern preview by now.

5. Hit the check button   to complete the tutorial. You model should looks like this.
