TIPS: Positive and Negative Values for Increment Input in Pro/E Dimension Pattern

TIPS: Positive and Negative Values for Increment Input in Pro/E Dimension Pattern

 Version: Pro/E 2001, Wildfire, Wildfire 2.0, Wildfire 3.0, Wildfire 4.0

This is a short tip showing you how to decide the positive and negative value for increment input in Pro/ENGINEER Dimensional Pattern. The positive and negative value will decide the direction which the pattern instances will be created. New Pro/E users may have a little confuse if no proper guideline is provided.

ProE Tips: Positive and Negative Values for Increment Input in Dimension Pattern

IMPORTANT!
1.    Direction towards RIGHT not always POSITIVE (+) vise versa – linear dimension
2.    UPWARDS Direction not always POSITIVE (+) vise versa – linear dimension
3.    CLOCK WISE direction not always POSITIVE (+) vise versa – angular dimension

How to decide the positive and negative direction in Pro/E dimensional pattern:
1.    Identify the reference of the selected dimension.
2.    Direction from Reference to Object is the POSITIVE direction (see green)
3.    Opposite direction of Reference to Object is the NEGATIVE direction (see red)

Example: Horizontal (see image above)
When you are requested for the increment value for pattern feature, inputting a positive value will create instances towards right side. Inputting negative value to the increment value will cause the pattern instances being positioned outside the model (towards left).

Example: Vertical (see image above)
Inputting a positive value for pattern increment will create instances downwards. Inputting negative value to the pattern increment will cause the pattern instances being positioned outside the model (upwards).
